U-shaped kitchen
A U-shaped kitchen is a solution that is very often found in small kitchens. It is versatile, extremely easy to arrange, and cozy. However, its main advantage is the fact that it is functional and comfortable. Maximum use of space makes the kitchen practical and working in it a real pleasure.
Kitchen – U-shape
A U-shaped kitchen consists of two parallel rows of cabinets connected by a third. The workspace is located on three walls of the room, forming a horseshoe shape, which contains all the appliances and accessories necessary for working in the kitchen. This kitchen layout is most often found in small rooms where the space does not offer many design options. Contrary to appearances, a U-shaped kitchen also works well in kitchens that open onto the living room.
U-shaped kitchen – how to arrange it?
Arranging a U-shaped kitchen is not an easy task, especially in a very limited space. This arrangement of furniture and appliances is ideal for rectangular and square kitchens, provided that the distance between one row of furniture and the other is not less than 90 centimeters. Otherwise, the kitchen will not be functional, and moving around it will be highly problematic. The best distance for maximum comfort is 120 centimeters. Then, a small U-shaped kitchen will not only accommodate all appliances and equipment, but also guarantee comfort while working.
U-shaped kitchen furniture should be limited to the lower row only. Due to the small space, it is better to give up the upper cabinets altogether or replace them with something more delicate. This will make a small U-shaped kitchen more spacious.
U-shaped kitchen arrangement in a larger space
A U-shaped kitchen also works well in larger spaces. Arranging kitchen furniture in a horseshoe shape allows you to create a kitchen corner which, despite being connected to the living room, is somewhat hidden in it.
The kitchen furniture on the living room side can be arranged as a table with chairs or high stools. The remaining two sides of the U-shaped kitchen will constitute a workspace, which is best planned according to the so-called work triangle principle. According to this system, the pantry area (refrigerator, storage cabinets) should be on the left, followed by the washing, food preparation, and cooking areas. A common practice in U-shaped kitchens is to place the sink between two parallel rows. In small kitchens, it is often located under the window.
U-shaped kitchen furniture with an island
In much larger spaces, a kitchen island can also be a great idea, as it will be the focal point of a U-shaped kitchen. A kitchen island provides additional workspace or a bar where everyone in the household can find their place. The U-shaped kitchen furniture will surround the island, creating the perfect place for the family to spend time together while preparing and eating meals.
U-shaped kitchen furniture and its advantages
Kitchen furniture for a U-shaped kitchen should be functional and practical above all else. Therefore, all kinds of innovative solutions that maximize the use of kitchen space are ideal. In addition to their practical functions, U-shaped kitchen furniture should also be characterized by an original design and high quality. Thanks to this, even the smallest kitchen will look extremely stylish.
